Program Overview

The Blue Lotus School of Shiatsu offers a 650 hour diploma program in the science and art of Shiatsu and Traditional Asian Medicine. The goal of our program is to train students to be well educated and compassionate health care practitioners who can serve the deepest potential within themselves and the well-being of their communities. Equally important to our program is supporting graduates with the business and practice management skills necessary for building a successful career and valued service in their communities.

Graduates are firmly grounded in the fundamentals of Chinese medical theory, energetic and biomedical anatomy and physiology, and the theory and practice of Zen Shiatsu, one of the most evolved and widely practiced shiatsu forms in the world today. Other Asian bodywork therapies taught in the program are Sotai, Moxabustion, Cupping, Taijiquan, and Qigong. In addition, graduates are well versed in biomedical concepts essential to communicating with health professionals from all fields of medicine and guiding others in their pursuit of quality integrative care.

The program also provides training in the theory and practice of dietary and lifestyle medicine. This training enables the graduate to teach and coach clients in the fundamentals of whole food nutrition and healthy lifestyles according to the principles of Asian medical theory. This component of the program is a unique and greatly needed complement to the shiatsu therapist’s repertoire of skills. Changes in diet and lifestyle are critical to restoring and maintaining whole health. Combining shiatsu therapy with appropriate dietary and lifestyle coaching enables a shiatsu practitioner to provide a unique scope of care for their community.
